2009 Military Hero Award

The 2009 recipient of our Military Hero Award is Sergeant Kurtis D. Foster. Kurtis has received three Purple Hearts for injuries suffered during his service in the Iraq War: first during the Battle of Fallujah on November 12, 2004; the second outside the small city of Barawana on January 19, 2006; and the third outside the city of Karmah on July 31, 2007. While recovering in the hospital from his last round of serious injuries, he reenlisted and was assigned to the Wounded Warrior Battalion at Camp Pendleton. He has been receiving treatment for his second Tramatic Brain Injury (TBI), neck and back injuries, as well as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). These extensive injuries will keep Kurtis from returning to full duty, and he will most likely be retired from the Marine Corps. At just 23 years of age, Kurtis is our picture of a military hero, and we're proud to present him with our second such award.
